Rated 5 out of 5 by from A unique alternative to table salt After years of browsing I finally purchased this Hawaiian native salt. This particular salt has a very dark black hue and comes in either small grain or course, I purchased the course grinder. When grinded finely, has a very pleasing and sparkling appearance; almost similar to broken glass with some black grains. Tasting notes: a decent dusty and small grain mixture when grinded, with a strong but pleasant long lasting salt taste. You will not need to use as much of this salt as you would table salt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great with Steak I purchased a small amount to try it, and Quickly went to the Web site to order enough to share as Christmas Gifts. Let the steak sit out to warm up a bit, pat steak dry, cover the steak with a good amount of the Hiwa Kai Black salt and pepper. (Its pretty coarse, crush down a bit if you like.) Sear Steak in a dry, super hot cast iron skillet, about 4-5 minutes each side. Let it restart awhile before you cut into it. "Fantastic Steak Salt".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the salt I have been attempting to purchase this since I first bought a couple of years ago in Hawaii. LOVE the salt---only have to use a small amount (of course, I don't use much salt anyway, but with Hiwa Kai I use even less).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I bought two: one for me and one for gift. I found the grinder difficult and awkward and the salt was much finer than I really like.
