Cooking Directions

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • In the bowl of your stand mixer, gently combine warm water, yeast and sugar using the hook attachment. Once frothy, add the melted butter and Pure Ocean Premium Sea Salt (fine grain). Add 3 cups of flour, one cup at a time, until dough forms and is no longer sticky. You may need more or less flour to get the desired dough consistency. If you press your finger into the dough and it bounces back, you're ready to knead.
  • Knead dough on lightly floured surface until smooth and pliable, about 5 minutes. Shape the dough into a ball and place in a clean, well-oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let stand in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  • While dough rests, boil water and baking soda until baking soda is mostly dissolved. Take mixture off heat and allow to cool to lukewarm temperature.
  • Prepare one or two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Take dough out of the bowl and flatten slightly with your hand. Cut into 8 slices, like pizza. Roll each triangle into a 18-20 inch rope. Shape each rope into a pretzel and immerse in the baking soda mixture for 2 minutes.
  • Carefully remove pretzels from the baking soda water and place on the prepared cookie sheet. You may need to re-shape the dough slightly. Repeat for each pretzel. Sprinkle with Pure Ocean Premium Sea Salt in kosher grain (or grain size of your choice).
  • Bake until golden brown, about 8-9 minutes. Brush heavily with butter immediately after you remove the pretzels from the oven. Serve warm or store in an airtight container for up to two days.
